Hi there! Well, let me start off by noting that today is July 20th….I’m a bit shocked! I was hoping on doing so many more things in this space but the last couple of weeks I’ve given myself the time to really slow down and just kind of take a break.
I do wish to be more consistent on the blog and share SO many ideas but at this point I’m listening to my body and I’m taking it day by day. No pressure whatsoever. Just slowing down.
Most of the day I’m at home with Georgie. We’ve had lots of high temperatures and it doesn’t really make it easy to be out and about during the day time. Unless you’re at the beach!
When I first moved to Greece, it seemed weird to me that people would wait until the evening, just before the sun would set to meet up with friends, sit on their balconies or do any outdoor activity. I recently found out that we live in the second hottest city in Greece. Not many people are out between 2pm and 5pm. The heat is unbearable.
Don’t get me wrong….people do go out and go to work….everyone tries to get their errands done early in the morning before it starts to get really hot! On some days though, it’s just a bit TOO hot to be out.
I’ve gotten used to it and so has Georgie. He is in that phase where he wants and enjoys spending time at home and on his own. I’m guessing he’s at that pre-teen phase where he doesn’t want to spend time with THE parents. He likes being in his room, listening to music, reading…basically he just likes being MORE at home these days. I don’t know what’s going on but it is what it is and I respect it.
I feel like it’s a transitional phase for us as well. I mean here comes this little person in our life that we nurture, love and have kept ALIVE….now he’s turning into a young man who wants to do things on his own and doesn’t really need us that much.
It makes me SO happy how much he’s grown and how independent and confident he is and that thought always brings a smile to my face! Sometimes I miss those Saturday morning cartoons together snuggling under a blanket and our bedtime stories….he’s a young man now and things change. I guess that’s what they mean when they say hold on to your babies as much as you can.
We might not watch cartoons in the morning but we’ve got these new little rituals. We have breakfast together and he’ll tell me of all the cool stuff his into these days and the moment breakfast is over, he always asks me,”What are we having for lunch?”.God bless him, he eats a lot! So, that’s another thing I’ve got to get back to….making snacks to have around!
Another thing that we also do together is go to the beach. Love our beach days! 🥰 As for father and son….they do their own thing. Paris takes him along to the village where he helps with different things. They talk about these old movies that Georgie is really into these days with trucks and cars….it’s cute how they bond!
We enjoy our evenings at home….dinner, movies, a bit of sitting out on the balcony. On some nights, Paris and I go out for dinner and usually we seek those places where the air might be a bit cooler!
The last couple of times it’s been just the two of us since our boy wants to stay home and it feels like a date every single time! hahaha! It’s really nice!
Since our kiddo doesn’t always come along, we get to dine in places where we don’t really stress about what’s on the menu for our boy to eat….perks!
We’ve been a few times to Xenia. We really enjoy the food there. We’ve had their Polo Salad and their Pasta Polo….delicious! Also their pizzas….really nice! I love the whole atmosphere they’ve got at this place. View of the town, lots of green around you, bistro lights….really cute place!
Last weekend we celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary! I can’t believe it’s been fifteen years!
Paris organised a weekend in Kalamata. A city worth visiting! So many nice cafes, restaurants, beaches, bars….the list in endless!
Early in the morning, we went to Kalamata’s main square and we got some greek filo pastries from a bakery and strolled around in the cutest narrow streets. This square has got some of the nicest cafes I’ve ever seen and so so many shops.
Later, a short drive from the square to the waterfront cafes by the port. In the summertime, that’s where most of the people are.
We had brunch at Athanasiou’s Bakery. Ooh, what can I say about this bakery….they make everything and anything! We ordered freddo espressos and I had whole wheat bread with avocado, poached eggs and salmon! yum! Paris had a Croissant Croquet Madame….it was AMAZING! I can talk about it all day….that’s how much I enjoyed it! hahaha!
Later a dip in the sea and then in the evening, we went to our favourite restaurant in the world! Kastraki-Meteoro is in Verga, Kalamata. It’s located in the most idyllic spot where you can enjoy a beautiful meal (or drinks) in a beautiful setting.
Sunset, the Messenian bay, dinner with my best friend….happiest woman on the planet! It was perfect!
That’s basically it! This is what we’ve been up to these last couple of weeks….collecting moments!
It’s always the little things that matter to me the most! I’ve learnt to cherish all the moments that life gives us whatever they may be….find joy in the small stuff!
So….cheers to the next few days left in July and to more lovely little moments!
