While it’s still November and I’m savouring all of autumn’s beauty, the holiday season is almost upon us! All the sparkling lights, lit up Christmas trees everywhere, the cosiness, Sinatra singing in the background—oh how I love the nostalgia it brings!

When it comes to the holiday decor, designer Josh Young’s home which is the epitome of what I’m drawn to. His elegant approach on bringing heirloom pieces and ornaments that have been collected throughout the years with just the right touches is, for me personally, the essence of how the holidays should feel—intimate, simple, eclectic.

“The ornament collection started when I was a kid because of my late grandmother, Rose. When I was a kid, I used to walk into her living room, and she would have all these beautiful ornaments, each one unique—actually, some of the things on these trees are hers from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s. I don’t think the holidays should be generic. It’s a great time to bring out heirlooms and things you’ve collected over the years. Decorating is a constant case of, “Do you remember when we got this in New York or when we got this in Paris?” It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it creates nostalgia.”

I’ve become a firm believer of ‘less is more’. There have been Christmases when I’ve gotten carried away with all the decor craze, only to realise in the end, it’s the traditional classic decor with hints of red and vintage ornaments that charm me the most! More than anything else, I look forward to putting up those sentimental ornaments that have me reminiscing of places that we’ve visited and things that remind me of my son that truly bring me joy!

All this to say, I anticipate the moment we start to decorate our home for the holidays. It’s not about the grandiose decor; what delights me the most is the warm, homey atmosphere that can be created with the simplest things. I look forward to making gingerbread man and cinnamon rolls. Watching Christmas movies with the fam. More togetherness with family and friends. That’s the essence of this holiday—feeling Christmassy and indulging in all the festivities.

Having said that, sharing some of my recent finds that would make perfect additions to our heirloom collection!
