Notes 07.22
July has made its presence early this morning with the distinct sounds of the crickets letting us in on the day that follows. I’ve opened the kitchen door that leads to our garden and I’m staring at a light morning breezy swaying its way through the lemon and orange trees. This is how mornings start— slow.
The last two weeks, Georgios and I have been decompressing from school work and exams. We felt so much better once exams were over and enjoyed our first Weekend Getaway. We’ve been going to this lovely place for years and its become a little tradition for us!
Calendar
Quite a few things are coming up this month. We’ve got our anniversary, Paris’ nameday and my birthday! No set plans yet on what we’re going to do and we like it that way!
Paris got us tickets to a music festival in Athens and we’re super excited about that! We’ve turned it into a little getaway! We thought it would be a perfect opportunity to experience the city—ruins, cafes, wine bars, strolls in old neighbourhoods….taking in all the sights and sounds of Athens.
We’ve also got family members visiting and we’re so thrilled to be spending time with them as well! Many family gatherings are to be expected!
Lately
I mentioned last month that I’ve been more consistent in my workouts and how it has affected my well-being. I cannot express enough the impact it has had on me. I think it’s important to check in with ourselves and do more of the things that make us feel better. Something I’m constantly reminding myself.
Books on my nightstand—current authors Colleen Hoover and Elizabeth Gilbert.
My very first read by Colleen Hoover “It Ends with Us”. Oh my gosh! Did not expect that! There is a sequel coming out in the fall. Keeping an eye out for that! I’m currently reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and I just ordered Big Magic.
Movies—I went to the movies last week with a girlfriend and saw Elvis. I have no words! Fantastic movie! I’ve always been intrigued by Elvis’ story and this movie….wow, wow, wow! Made me feel like I need to learn more about his life—going down a rabbit hole! 😂
Shows—I just finished the new season of The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. Going to start the second part of Stranger Things this weekend and…..I really like Physical on AppleTV.
G has been watching Prank Encounters on Netflix and he’s got me hooked! He’s also into BattleBots and Star Trek. Real trekkie!
Thoughts
Georgios did exceptionally well in his exams and we are SO proud! I bumped into one of his teachers at a coffee house and we had the most honest and heartfelt conversation. She was moved by how much he’s changed since the beginning of the school year and how well he did in her class. She told me that during her exam, G showed more confidence and willingness to do his best and he did just that! She said she was really proud of him! 🥲 There were tears of joy in that coffee house!
It got me thinking of all his milestones. Never would I have thought that he would become the person he is today! There was so much fear and uncertainty when our child was first diagnosed and it took time and patience to get to where we’re now. From the beginning, I had a gut feeling that there was more than just a diagnosis. He is SO much more! There is a life to be lived. Memories to be made. There is God and love and joy! For anyone that can relate, I understand that it’s easier said than done. There are moments when it gets really hard and frustrating and all you want to do is give up. I get it, I really do! Keep going! My son’s diagnosis changed me. I am more present, compassionate, patient. It’s changed all of us. We’ve found our way. We’ve built a foundation of trust and love. We’re a team.
This experience has changed my perception of life. I thank God for that! It’s my son that inspires me. It’s our lifestyle that inspires my blog. It’s the place where we live and the people who love us. It’s….
