Notes 08.22
August—the last “official” month of summer but that doesn’t get anyone down here. In Greece, it feels like summer till the end of September. Sure school have started by then but that doesn’t bother anyone. People enjoy all those summer feels until it really starts to feel like fall.
Calendar
No set plans this month and like I’ve said in the past, it’s nice sometimes to just go with the flow of things! Paris and Georgios have their birthdays this month so, I will do something special for my guys! I’d like us to have a family getaway just for a few days somewhere nearby, more local. Again, nothing set in stone, we’re all about that spur of the moment kind of plans!
For the time being, we enjoy going to the beach and spending evenings on our balcony….we have family night whether it’s pizza night or a movie-love the simple stuff!
Lately
I started this fun “little project” shall we say! I’m on a mission to explore rosé wines! It’s kind of fun! I’m more of a white wine gal and over time, I’ve narrowed a few of my faves so, I figured got to find a nice rosé! Along with the wine, I’ve been making more new recipes that would compliment the wines and it somehow makes the whole thing a lot more special!
We’ve been living in a staycation kind of state these days due to high temperatures. It happens often here, especially in the southern part of Greece, the heat makes going outdoors a bit unbearable at times so, we get our errands done and then we stay in! Personally, it has given me the time to do things around the house and I like the fact that I’ve had a little more time for some binge watching!
Just started watching Surface on AppleTv-oh my goodness! First three episodes have got me hooked to see what comes next! Love a good mystery/suspense genre! Also really like Loot and Physical.
Books on my nightstand—Eat Pray Love & Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert Verity & Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. I’m eagerly waiting to see the movie Where the Crawdads Sing. I read this book when Reese Witherspoon first shared it on her bookclub and it’s one of my most favourite books! Reese is also one of the producers of the movie so, I feel like I already know it’s going to be good! It’s got the Reese seal!
Thoughts
It was only after a podcast episode that I heard one morning that I decided to buy the book Big Magic and I’m glad I did! Since I first started my blog, I knew in my heart that it was something I had to do! I’m intuitive like that! I knew that I wanted to share the excitement, the goodness, the joy, the vulnerability, motherhood and all that I inspires me with the hope that it resonates with others or that people might enjoy the things I share as much as I do.
In the process, I’ve also questioned and doubted myself many many times! What the heck am I doing? What is it all for? Who cares about what I have to say! I’m no photographer! I’m no cook! I’m not creative! A little voice that shatters all those good feelings! Gilbert in Big Magic talks about permission slips and writes : “You don’t need a permission slip from the principal’s office to live a creative life.” As I was reading it, I wondered….Is it someone’s approval that I need to feel okay with pursuing things that light me up? Is it courage that I need? I was instantly intrigued! And this was just the beginning of the book!
“So this, I believe, is the central question upon which all creative living hinges: Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?”
“The universe buries strange jewels deep within us all, and then stands back to see if we can find them.”
“The hunt to uncover those jewels—that’s creative living.”
“I’m talking about living a life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear.”
I’ve realised that behind the lack of consistency, doubt….it’s fear that holds me back and reading this book, I’ve realised that I don’t want fear control me. Fear may accompany me to living a creative life but I won’t let it hold me back any longer.
I never knew I had it in me to be person who would use terms such as being inspired, creative, finding things that bring joy, passions…..but here we are and I’m constantly finding inspiration everywhere—in the sights and sounds of nature, in how the light hits a certain way, in a good meal, in moments that bring out emotions, in the slow life….in how one single event in my life change me and the way I see everything around me.
“A creatively lived life is any life where consistently, routinely, habitually and constantly you choose the path of curiosity over the path of fear.” -Elizabeth Gilbert
“Creativity is the Way I share my Soul with the World.”
—Brene Brown
I haven’t read the whole book just yet but at this point I feel unapologetic of my curiosities. It’s something I’m doing for me so, thanks for being here! I’m glad you’re here and following along my path of creativity! ♥️
