Writer’s Notes, 24.09

It’s 6:55 am. I woke up before anyone else, made a warm cup of coffee and quietly opened the shutters so that I catch sight of my favourite sunrises of the year. I’m currently sitting at our bistro table in the office, taking note of how beautiful the change in the light fills our home. A warm glow. September in Southern Greece feels like a soft extension of summer. Sunny days without the excessive heat make this time of year the most idyllic for leisurely get-togethers at town squares, al fresco dining and weekend dips! When the sun begins to set, you notice a different kind of coolness in the air—a little chill reminding us that summer days are slipping away.

As the crispness of autumn begins to beckon, I feel a sense of elation as we enter the autumn season—it holds a special place in my heart. I used to think that it was the fact that I’m Canadian that I love this season so much. Autumns in Canada are exceptionally lovely with its foliage of fiery reds, oranges and yellows turning the surroundings into a cosy, wholesome setting. Moving to Greece, I came to discover that the true essence of the autumn charm does not lie in the foliage of a Canadian autumn but rather on how this season makes me feel. I relish in the comfort it invites, the respite it imposes, intimate gatherings, nostalgia and introspection—a tapestry of emotions! I’m a firm believer that life is what we make of it and romanticising life is my way of finding specks of joy in the every day— on this note, here are some of my most favourite things I look forward to doing this season!
