Notes 10.22
I love the change of the seasons—it gets my creativity juices flowing! I look forward to making new recipes and bakes goods. I create a fall-inspired playlist for those crisp mornings and it gives me great pleasure in making our home feel cosy—little things that satisfy the soul!
Calendar
In last month’s notes I mentioned that I wanted to freshen things up in our home. It wasn’t in my plans originally but I’m listening to my instincts and I’m starting in our bedroom. I’m very inspired by Rose Uniacke and my vision is to recreate this bedroom’s ambience. I’m going to focus on completing one room at a time (slowly) until I’ve reached the desired result! I easily get overwhelmed with ideas so I figure telling myself one room at a time is the best approach! Then it’ll be Georgios’ room—new bed, bookcase, desk….yup, overwhelmed! ha ha ha!
Another thing on the agenda that I’m hoping to be doing this month, which I was inspired by a fellow blogger, is a “joy list” as bp.lovery mentions on her blog and fill our Sundays with outdoors-y plans since autumn is the most idyllic season!
Lately
We’ve adjusted back to the rhythms of school. Surprisingly, it went preeetttty smooth. There is still a bit of complaining here and there from the kiddo’s stance but other than that….not bad! Being in his second year of high school, he seems more confident and sure of himself and it’s giving me lots of relief. There are moments when that protective mom in me still tries to control things but I’m working on that! I’m adjusting as well!
I’ve been savouring my mornings lately. I wake up looking forward to my routine. I start my day with warm water with half lemon, journaling and then it’s a double shot espresso with greek honey, collagen and maca. Listening to music/podcasts is another morning pleasure. In the last couple of weeks I’ve heard a few conversations on different podcasts with Dr Becky Kennedy talking about parenting-love her approach! She speaks about connecting with our kids on a whole new standpoint and honestly just from those conversations, I made a few changes as well. Her book Good Inside just came out and I can’t wait to get my hands on my copy to dig a little deeper! Definitely worth checking her out!
If you’re anything like me and on the look out for a good TV show/movie, check out Only Murders in The Building—loved it! Black Bird was really good and I just started The Essex Serpent. A good movie pick that we watched with Paris was The Greatest Beer Run Ever. I’d love to hear some of your faves!
Thoughts
This past winter, I really struggled with my mental health. I was constantly feeling stressed and easily triggered. I wasn’t sleeping well which made me feel worse and there were times when I felt lost. It wasn’t till late spring that I felt the need more than ever to really slow down. I needed to readjust myself and remind myself of what makes me feel good – one good moment at a time. I set boundaries to things that didn’t correlate with my values. Daily journaling was/is a priority to help with the mental clutter. I gave myself time so that I could figure things out with the hope of moving towards to a more positive mindset. Good food and movement were also key factors for me. The simplest thing as a walk gave me some clarity. It was a tough period and staying consistent sometimes felt impossible but I pushed through and I’m glad I did! Slowly but surely I’m starting to feel like myself again. I’m sharing these thoughts with the hope that it might help someone. For me, it’s those daily habits that have really helped me out of my slump and within those struggles, whatever they may be, we’re learning and growing.
