“A Joyful Heart is Good Medicine.”
November is my most favourite month of all! It is a gentle in-between of savouring the last stretch of autumn while slowly leaning toward the magic ahead. The air feels crisper, mornings are a little quieter and home becomes a place of warmth once more. I find comfort in the rituals that define this time of year—lighting candles, baking something sweet, wrapping myself in knits and letting our home take on a calm before December’s sparkle.
Lately, I’ve been reminded how a joyful heart can foster gratitude—how choosing to slow down and find beauty in the present helps soften the rush that this season often brings. Amid the early signs of holiday frenzy, there’s something grounding about pausing to appreciate where we are right now—the in-between days, the half-lit afternoons, the smell of something baking in the oven. Joy, I’m learning, often lives quietly in these moments, in the simplicity of being content with what’s here.
As of Late
This time of year always brings out my inner homebody. My mood is set on savouring a good cup of coffee, a warm bath, film nights, slow dinners and early nights. I’ve been craving small, grounding rituals—baking something sweet (apple pie and pumpkin rolls are high on the list), lighting candles as the day winds down and letting the house take on that soft, cosy mood that November brings.
We finally got around to painting a few space in our home and it’s been such a breath of fresh air to declutter and reorganise in the process. It’s amazing how a simple change—a fresh coat of paint, a rearranged corner— can shift the energy of a space. Little by little, the house feels more like us again.
I’ve also been more mindful about my health. It’s funny how the body speaks when it needs attention—a few dizzy spells recently reminded me that I hadn’t been taking care of myself the way I should. They turned out to be from neck tension and after two physio sessions with cupping, I already feel lighter. I’m back to nourishing meals, adding more good food to our days and being intentional about fitting movement and workouts into my routine.
Mostly, I’m finding joy in the simplicity of it all—in creating a home that feels warm and lived-in and in tending to what’s right in front of me.
Mood
November feels like a warm cup of coffee.
I’m in the mood for soft living—the kind where life slows down just enough to notice what feels nourishing. Morning walks. A stop at the farmer’s market for fresh flowers and seasonal produce. Quiet, cosy evenings at home. Nourishing bowls of soup. Wearing pyjamas all Sunday with no plans whatsoever. Baking an apple pie (I’m going to be making Meghan’s recipe), pumpkin cinnamon rolls and homemade butter—just because. Cosy blankets peppered around the house, warm popcorn, a glass of wine and film nights. Slow dinners. Good company.
It’s the little things that make the every day feel beautiful.
Savouring the easiness of autumn is what I intend on doing. I don’t want the frenzy of the holidays—I want to enjoy the anticipation instead of rushing toward the festivities. I am allowing though a little Christmas excitement in! I’ve been wanting the full experience of getting a real tree—the choosing, the loading, the scent—I’m already romanticising it in my head!
But until then, I’ll be savouring the tender middle place of November—the soft transition where life quietly prepares itself for what’s next.
Here’s to cosy evenings, warm cups of coffee and embracing the season we’re in.
