Sweet November
One of my favourite months! I love how the light changes. Those crisp mornings when you wear lush sweaters and warm coats. Warm fleece slippers and cosy loungewear. Bundling up on the sofa. Lamps in every corner. Throws, candles and a glass of wine on movie nights! Such a mood!
This month for me is a “prep” time…kind of a spring cleaning! I organise our closets and start by changing things around our home. It also inspires me to get a little creative in the kitchen-cooking, baking….I’m also in a mood of changing things up a bit. So….bought this tableware set from Zara Home and I also bought a vintage marble table lamp to put on the kitchen counter, a new carpet runner for the sink and a few things here and there….really cute!
I want things to be simple! Keeping things that are useful and that I use….anything else is just clutter! (read that somewhere!) So this week I’ve got lots of reorganising and decluttering!
A little update on how it’s been lately!
Georgie is in grade 7! High school! I CANNOT believe that our boy is in high school! It’s been about a month and it took some adjusting! Programme, teachers, new environment, new classmates….but we’re proud! He goes to school and comes home on his own. He knows his schedule. He has already dealt with some bullies and it seems like he’s found his way to deal with situations. He even got into a fight for sticking up for one of his classmates!! Shocked!!
There is a lot of new stuff-even for us! I think Paris and I are more anxious than he is. It didn’t seem that he had that much difficulty adjusting to the newness-relief! He is very calm and he seems so mature! So we’re just following along!
He is eligible to have a shadow teacher even in high school, something that G wanted, but no one has showed up just yet. What really matters to us is that he’s doing his best. His showing initiative, independence-what else can we ask for?
Paris and I just want him to be happy. Sure we do tell him and we try to prepare him for different scenarios of life-whatever they may be….but at the end of the day, he is the one that has to deal with it all. As he gets older, he needs to experience things and handle things on his own. Ever since he was little we’d talk about real life scenarios and we explain so much….but you can’t prepare your kid for everything! You try to get all that info in and then pray for the best!
He is going through a teenager phase and my only response to it—Choose your battles! That’s it! I make it sound so easy but it’s not! It needs a lot of effort not to get into an argument with your kid….deep breaths and move on!
Movie Nights & Books
Fridays are family movie night and pizza!! This fam is REALLY into movies night! Animated movies to space exploration…..Back to the Future…..Independence Day…you name it! The other week he asked me if I’d ever seen Speed…seriously?!! I think I’d gone three times to the movie theatre to see that movie! This week’s pick—Terminator 2 : Judgement Day—my kid is turning into his dad! ha ha ha!
On some afternoons when my guys are off doing their own things, I like to make a list of the movies that I’d like to watch.
I like different kinds of movies and books-depending on what I’m in the mood for! I’m drawn to the aesthetic, the music, the season, the writing….
It’s kind of that state that Christmas puts you in….only I seek it everywhere! In movies, books, interior design….when I’m cooking or listening to music….it’s what I’ve said time and time again- its those small joys!
My list of movies for this month – The Bridges of Madison County, When Harry met Sally, The Lake House and Nancy Meyers‘ films.
My book stack– The Silent Patient, Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass, The Island Of Missing Trees
