I’m not your average do-it-yourself kind of person. There are those rare moments when I surprise myself! This was one of those moments! ha ha ha!
We all have bought those classic advent calendars for our kids with the little chocolates behind every little door—they’re great! What happens though when you’ve got more that one kid? I remember growing up, we’d get into fights with my sisters over those little chocolates! ha ha ha!!
Gathering inspiration from other bloggers and pinterest, I thought to myself ” I can do this!”. My first DIY project ever! It was such a hit with our son. Although in the beginning he found it boring and the fact that there was so much happening on the branch didn’t really appeal to him, it quickly became the highlight of our day leading up to Christmas!
What you need
-
I went to a local florist and bought a pine branch and red holly berry stem—this can also be done with an artificial branch. I didn’t have any at the time, so the florist covered me! Also, she had this really nice Christmas-y string which I used to tie both ends of the branch to hang
-
Wrapping Paper—I used wrapping paper, cut it into these small envelopes in different sizes and stuck little white stickers for the dates
-
String—I tied string on the branch and glued my envelopes on the string
That’s basically it!
As for what’s in the envelopes —that’s entirely up to each family and their kiddos! I included things that my kiddo really likes and things that we could do as a family! Like, pizza night, movie night, doing something fun after school, having a friend over, baking cookies….these are a few things that I added to our family advent calendar! I planned it so we can all do things together!
Have fun with it!
