First swim of the summer and it always starts in this beautiful place! A weekend getaway for moms and kids! Perfect way to start the summer once school’s out!

It has  become a tradition that we all look forward to right after Christmas break! Our kids start talking about it for months and they eagerly wait for the moment we drive to this beautiful costal village with its picturesque beach!

It all started with a discussion! One of my closest friends had spent the weekend there with her family and she was raving about how relaxing it was and how much her son really enjoyed it!

The waters in this place are shallow for quite a few meters before it gets deep…. perfect spot for small kiddos! At that time when we were having this conversation, I was really overwhelmed with so so many things. I remember Georgie was about 4 years old, we had just started speech therapy and OT —I was really stressed and it sounded like the most idyllic place to unwind; that’s where it all began! It’s been almost a decade and this little getaway has given us so much!

It’s become a place where we disconnect from things that have no value and to be in the moment of all the beautiful things life has to offer—connecting to nature, calmness,  bonds, special friendships, beautiful memories that we will always keep in our hearts!

We rent these really cute rooms just by the sea with the most perfect and calming morning view! We usually stay at Alkyones Seaside Studio Apartments.

We enjoy our breakfast all together on the patio tables under the grape vines just before our morning swim. Once the kids are done with breakfast, they get their stuff ready and they’re off to the beach. Which is so convenient because it’s literally right next to our rooms.

Most of our day is spent at the beach. Moms have packed small lunches and the sunscreen is passed around and the moment the kiddos jump in the ocean…..freddo espressos for the moms! Now, let me tell you about the freddo espresso….it’s basically espresso beaten up a bit with ice and then poured in a glass over ice….sounds a bit boring but to all coffee lovers, it’s the perfect summer coffee!

At lunch time, we round up the kids and we eat at Asopitan. It’s literally right on the beach and it’s so convenient! We leave our things on the beach and enjoy our lunch!

Some of our favs….their greek pizza, chicken schnitzel, penne polo, Caesar salad….they have a nice variety of delicious dishes; from appetisers to main dishes….ice cream, waffles….even cocktails! It’s got a great atmosphere and their staff is very helpful.

After lunch, we usually go back to the beach until the evening.

In the evenings, we would return to our rooms, relax for a bit and depending how everyone is feeling, we would sometimes take the kids out to the main road (which is a walking distance) and see the lovely small taverns and shops. The kids would sometimes go near the small port and fish….ha ha ha! This is the most funniest moment! After being in the sun all day, I really can understand where they find the energy to attempt fishing! Nevertheless, they always make different suggestions to each other and the moms just go along with it.

Sometimes we  just enjoy our evenings on the patio just outside our rooms.

The kids play board games, watch a movie in one of our rooms or we’d just hang out together talking about different things! I love those evenings!

This year, I was a bit more prepared! I brought some of my wine glass and made my friends cocktails! Hugo Spritz to be exact! Perfect way to unwind!

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing our kids faces light up the moment we head to this place! There are no words that can describe this fulfilling sense that I feel in my heart! It’s not the place….it’s the friends we share it and the memories we keep!

I hope and wish that we continue this tradition of ours as our kids get older. Maybe it’ll turn into a moms’ retreat! 😉
