Easing our way back into our daily routine and our eating habits post-holidays can be a bit of a struggle! Over the years, I have found that the approach that works best for me and my family is coming back to the basics. Wellness and feeling good is a collective goal in our household.
the basics:
Eating whole foods—Foods and meals that are as close to their natural, unprocessed form as possible. At first it may seem difficult to adjust to such an eating method but once there are those staple meals and snacks, it’s easy to follow. Over time, it becomes second nature. I fell less bloated and more energetic.
Movement—Setting a goal as simple as working out three times a week has helped me stay consistent. The key is to finding what you like best (walking, yoga, pilates…) and easing into it by staying consistent.
Sleep routine— 9pm is when I put my phone down. We incorporate in our ‘sleep mode’. Quieter settings. Table lamps. Softer voices. On some nights, I’ll add a little extra self-care to my routine—face mask, a warm bath. It’s a habit stack I’ve incorporated. Then, I curl up in bed with a book.
Organise/Declutter—This one for me has to do with my mental state. It’s like the first ‘spring cleaning’ of the year. It relieves me of any anxiety and energises my productivity mode this way I can focus on my goals and intentions.
It may seem impossible to do everything at once so my advice is start with one thing at a time. Integrating new routines and habits does not happen overnight. It’s a process. Daily I remind myself what can I do today so I feel better and more productive. It’s easy to slip away from new year resolutions and goals set. The key is consistency and pick one activity each day that’ll make you feel like your best self. That’s the goal!
