The Retrospect of a Year
06.01.25
On New Year’s Day, I felt compelled to open the camera roll on my phone and look back on the year before I began making my new year’s resolutions—a retrospect of the last twelve months deemed necessary! A year holds a tapestry of life!
As I scrolled through the images, I noticed that this past year I really honed in on the slow rhythms of life. I didn’t feel bad for allowing it to exist—I used to feel that it hindered my progress. By making room for it and permitting it to co-exist with everything else, I’ve come to realise that it’s become the epitome of my being! When I slow down, I am more intentional about my time and I focus more. Slowing down and finding a rhythm to whatever I’m doing, calms my nervous system and helps me be a better version of myself. My morning practise was a significant highlight of 2024 and will continue to be in the next year. It gets me in a flow and I’m more at ease about the way I go about my day.
It has also been a year of spiritual growth. I’ve always been a believer but when I started reading scriptures in the mornings, something shifted inside me, it’s changed my outlook on life. I’m learning to lean less into my own understanding, to trust God and believe that He is leading me in the direction that is meant for me.
The year did bring its own challenges from the creative standpoint. I thought a lot about my content and how it serves you all. There were moments when I felt stuck and in deep reflective thought on the direction on this space—the struggles and sorrows made me realise that there’s a reason why this idea was planted in my heart and in order to find it, I need to move out of my own way! So, I want to honour the creative and make space for her to grow in the next year. The mantra for 2025—create, share more and have fun with it!
A greek poet wrote, ‘What I wish for the new year is that the Lord does not take away all the has given me.’ What a beautiful thought! A year holds so many beautiful moments and experiences and I’m grateful for all of it. This little recap has given peace with were I’m currently at and it’s given much anticipation for what is to come in 2025. It is the ease that I feel in my heart that I’m embracing the beginning of the new year unhurried and with much curiosity!
Happy New Year!
