Writer’s Notes,

“Calm days, crisp air, and autumn.“
November is my favourite autumn month. I say this every year.
I think I romanticise this month more than any other. Nothing beats the feelings it stirs in me—my heart feels like it will burst. Waking up early in the morning just to notice the golden sunlight leaking in through the curtains, small table lamps lit in the early hours, the sound of rain against the windows. Ballet flats, oversized cosy sweaters and jeans on repeat. Double cappuccino. Something simmering on the stove. Quintessential autumn films. Indulging in creamy pasta and a glass of something sparkling. Jazz music. A good book waiting on the bedside table.
It’s a delicious in-between month, savouring the last stretch of autumn while anticipating the warmth and wonder of the holiday season to come.
As of late
I took a real hit with this year’s flu season. What started as a terrible cold turned into high temperature, excruciating headaches and night sweats unlike anything I’d experienced before. After a week of barely eating and sleeping properly, much-needed rest and recovery followed.
It also made me realise that I haven’t been very intentional about looking after myself lately—making time for movement, nourishing myself with good meals and generally being more mindful. I’ve also felt stuck in a rut recently, and I think the two might be more connected than I first realised. Sometimes we get so caught up in the rhythms of everyday life that we forget to make space for ourselves too.
So, I’m taking it as a little nudge to shift things. Nothing extreme. Just getting back to the basics—more whole foods, strength training at least three times a week and getting outside. Small, manageable goals that I can build into everyday life without making them feel like another thing on my to-do list.
And of course, making room for the things I enjoy too. Pizza night is staying, as are the occasional soft chocolate chip cookies for a local bakery I love so much! The simple pleasures are just as important.
For me, it’s about finding the balance again and building habits that feel good enough to keep.
On my mind
Lately, I’ve been thinking about finding my way back to certain parts of myself. I’ve felt creatively stuck and I miss being inspired by the simplest things—a line in a book, a beautiful photograph, a thought worth writing down, an idea that I can’t wait to bring to life. Somewhere between the routines and the full days, I stopped making room for them.
I keep coming back to something Mel Robbins shared about acting like the person you want to become. It isn’t about faking it. It’s about small, conscious choices that reflect who you’d like to be, and the more we make them, the more natural they feel.
So here’s what it might look like for me. Writing a little more. Setting my phone down earlier in the evening and reaching for the books waiting on my TBR list. Date nights with my guy, time with friends gathered around the table, even if it’s a simple evening at home. And learning to follow through on an idea before I’ve thought it to death.
I’ve also been wanting to share more. The thoughts, the ideas, the everyday moments. After all, isn’t that one of the loveliest things about this space? The connections we make, the inspiration we find in one another and the encouragement to keep creating.
Maybe it’s really about being more present and making room for the things that make life feel like our own. Maybe that’s the whole beauty of it.
Here’s to a slow, cosy, intention-filled month ahead. Happy November, friends. x
